About East Kilbride

East Kilbride (; Scots: East Kirkbride;[citation needed]Scottish Gaelic: Cille Bhrìghde an Ear [ˈkʲʰiʎə ˈvɾʲiːtʲə əɲ ˈɛɾ]) is the largest town in South Lanarkshire in Scotland and the country’s 6th-largest city or town by population. It was then designated Scotland’s first additional town upon 6 May 1947. The area lies on a raised plateau to the south of the Cathkin Braes, about 8 miles (13 km) south-east of Glasgow and close to the boundary in the vent of East Renfrewshire. East Kilbride is twinned with the town of Ballerup, in Denmark.

The town ends near to the White Cart Water to the west and is bounded by the Rotten Calder Water to the east, the latter flowing northwards adjoining Blantyre, before joining the River Clyde opposite Daldowie close Cambuslang. In the northern ration of the town is The Village, the ration of East Kilbride that existed back its post-war move forward into a New Town. The out of date village nevertheless exists and is integrated into the town to the north of its town centre.
