About Galashiels

Galashiels (; Scots: Gallae,Scottish Gaelic: An Geal Àth) is a town in the Scottish Borders later a population of not far and wide off from 12,600. Its say is often colloquially shortened to “Gala”. The town is a major commercial middle for the Borders region in the same way as extensive records in the textile industry. Galashiels is the location of Heriot-Watt University’s School of Textiles and Design.

To the west of the town there is an ancient earthwork known as the Picts’ Work Ditch or Catrail. It extends many miles south and its summit and width vary. There is no consent about the seek of the earthwork. There is complementary ancient site on the north-western edge of the town, at Torwoodlee, an Iron Age hill fort, with a complex broch known as Torwoodlee Broch built in the western quarter of the hill fort, and overlapping some of the defensive ditches of the native fort. The Romans destroyed the broch in 140 CE, soon after it was completed.
