About Gateshead

Gateshead () is a large town in North East England and principal agreement of the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, situated on the southern bank of the River Tyne. Gateshead is united to Newcastle via seven bridges across the Tyne, including the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. The town is known for its architecture, including the Sage Gateshead, the Angel of the North and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Historically allowance of County Durham, under the Local Government Act 1888 the town was made a county borough, meaning it was administered independently of the county council.
