About Jarrow
Jarrow ( or /ˈdʒærə/) is a town in South Tyneside in the county of Tyne and Wear, England. It is upon the south bank of the River Tyne, about 3 miles (4.8 km) from the east coast. The 2011 census area classed Hebburn and The Boldons as allowance of the town, it had a population of 43,431. In the eighth century, the monastery of Saint Paul in Jarrow (now Monkwearmouth–Jarrow Abbey) was the house of The Venerable Bede, who is regarded as the greatest Anglo-Saxon scholar and the daddy of English history.
